El Rocío is a small village located in the municipality of Almonte, in Huelva. Every year, more than a million people from all over Spain and other regions congregate there to participate in one of the largest and most extraordinary pilgrimages in the world.

Although the most common way to get to El Rocío is by car or bus, a group of thousands of pilgrims choose to travel this pilgrimage on foot, accompanied by floats pulled by horses, donkeys, mules or oxen. Once they reach the village, the atmosphere is filled with religious and festive fervour. There is eating, dancing, praying and other activities until the procession of the Virgen del Rocío, the high point of the celebration, takes place. After this procession, everyone disappears in a matter of hours, leaving the village completely deserted.

The Pilgrimage of El Rocío is an impressive popular manifestation, impossible to define, but which represents an authentic expression of devotion, tradition and celebration in Andalusian culture.
